Evidence synthesis online course - Enrol anytime

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses can overcome important limitations that are inherent in traditional, narrative summaries of research. This practical online course spanning six months aims to make familiar current methods and standards for research synthesis. The four modules enable students to undertake systematic reviews and meta-analyses as the learning includes numerous examples and practial activities relevant to biomedical and dental practice. The course will use a problem-based learning approach in which each participant brings a specific topic for a systematic review to discuss, justify and revise during the module. Unlike the blended learning version of this training, we work around your schedule so as to give you the flexibility that you need while still guaranteeing publication of your manuscript in a journal with impact factor.

This one-of-a-kind practical course is run over a twenty six week blended learning cycle. The blended format includes a 2 day synchronous activities (the "bootcamp") and then a period of post-bootcamp activities (a mixture of self-directed and supported distance learning) dedicated to individual evidence synthesis. There will be regular (agreed based on your schedule) 1:1 meetings with our tutors, who will also act as independent reviewers, to keep your work on track. This is followed by a 2 day synchronous online workshop for supported practical teaching of meta-analysis. The final four weeks are for guided and self-directed study focusing on manuscript preparation, shortly followed by article submission.
